What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant County Attorney position at Chesterfield County?
The Chesterfield County Attorney’s Office is seeking to add a full-time litigation attorney at the Assistant County Attorney II level. The position will provide legal counsel to county officials and employees, handle litigation in federal and state court, and be responsible for a variety of complex legal matters and transactions. The successful applicant will represent the County and its officials and employees in an exciting variety of litigation matters, including civil rights cases, employment matters, administrative law issues, contract disputes, and more. The position offers significant independence and first-chair opportunities within a collaborative and experienced legal team.
Candidates must have a strong academic background, federal court litigation experience, and excellent research and writing skills. Candidates must also demonstrate an understanding of the political and administrative environment in which Virginia local governments operate and possess the ability to advocate legal solutions with moral authority. Candidates will be judged, in significant part, by the quality of their legal writing. Candidates will also be judged by information obtained from references who are familiar with their character and professional achievements. A resume and writing samples are required and must be attached to your application prior to submitting the application online. A minimum of three years of legal experience, preferably relating to local government matters, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required at the time of application. Good driving record required. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
