Customer Experience: It’s Our Business, It’s Our Passion.The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring a Family Services Specialist to help individuals and families in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights by providing services through the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) program.
What You Do and How You Do It:
As a Family Services Specialist for ICPC, you will conduct home studies and provide supervisor for foster children in custody of another state through the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children program. You will conduct court-ordered home studies for custody cases. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for assisting Senior Family Services Specialists with local ICPC cases, act as a liaison with the State ICPC office and provide complex casework/counseling. Other duties in this role include engaging families in prevention strategies; interviewing and assessing families as placement resources using trauma-informed practices and assuring compliance with minimum standards for foster home approval; writing reports, correspondence, and case narratives; and testifying in court. You’d also perform other work as required.
Here's What You Need:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia).
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable

- Excellent organizational, time management, oral/written communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and ability to apply social work principles and practice to children and families.

- Computer proficiency preferred.

- Ability to work on a flexible schedule and outside of the normal business hours as needed.

This position is part of an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.
