What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennelmaster position at Chesterfield County?
High school diploma or GED including one year high school level course in biology or animal husbandry and one year experience involving work with animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral and written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills required. Some knowledge of different breeds of animals and proper methods of their care and feeding. Customer service and record keeping experience preferred. Good driving record required. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months; or a DUI conviction in the past four years. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years. Assist with the care and feeding of the animals and in the operation and cleaning of the animal shelter; transport sick/injured animals to the veterinarian for treatment; administer medications and vaccinations as needed; perform routine testing for infectious animal diseases; maintain records of animals; provide information on animal control, animal care and shelter policies. Order food and maintain records of other supplies needed; clean/service vehicles; assist with reports and filing; assist the public with claiming animals or inquires as to the adoption of pets. Assist with the euthanizing animals for health or aggression reasons. Perform other work as required.
