Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are seeking a part time Licensed Practical Nurse to be a member of our Assertive Community Treatment Team providing services to adults with serious and persistent mental illness in the community.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing; possess licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing. One year of community-based experience working with adults with serious mental illness preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The candidate must exhibit working knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing, of medical terminology. Ability to apply simple nursing techniques; to record accurate information on patients' charts; to follow verbal and written directions; to follow established policies and procedures; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Requires knowledge of mental illness, psychiatric rehabilitation, psychotropic medications, medical problems, and community resources; skills in assessment of mental status and health status, diagnosis, providing education, and coordinating and monitoring activities of the team; and the ability to establish supportive and trusting relationships, communicate and work effectively with members of the team.
Additional Requirements:
Possess licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Works with the team to conduct psychiatric assessments.
• Assess physical health needs.
• Makes referrals to appropriate health care provider(s).
• Provides management and administration of medication.
• Provides a range of treatment, rehabilitation and supports.
• Documents activities in permanent electronic health record.
• Performs other work as required.
