The Family Coach provides support and education services to families to improve the functioning of the family unit and the creation of patterns, routines and discipline strategies that support the mental well-being, growth and development of the child. Based upon the concepts of Kim John Payne’s Simplicity Parenting and The Soul of Discipline, Family Coaching Services are designed, utilizing best practices and trauma informed approaches, to meet the specific needs and challenges of the families with children enrolled in our school.

Family Coaching Services are provided as a part of the family’s enrollment at the school and help to build a partnership that creates a supportive and coordinated approach between school and the home that allows parents and caregivers to learn and grow along-side of their child.

The Family Coach is a resource for families during the entirety of their enrollment and throughout the family's participation in CHI St. Joseph Children's Health programs. The Coach will help guide and support families and coordinate with faculty as the strategies and approaches needed to support children change and evolve as they grow and develop.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct family assessment and resource inventory to create a family focused action/goal plan and establish strategies to reach family-identified goals.
  • Provide focused interventions for students and families both within the school and in their homes to enhance and foster the student and family’s optimal functioning and coping both in the community and at home.
  • Assess student’s needs, service availability and appropriateness of services.
  • Assist faculty in developing appropriate strategies and environment to support the needs of students in their classrooms.
  • Coordinate care with the client’s CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health care team, leadership and external providers, as applicable (including but not limited to: Early Intervention Services, therapeutic services, attendance to IEP review meetings, etc.)
  • Provide families and faculty with skills and resources to foster connection, support, skills and techniques to promote engagement and participation with learning opportunities, classroom activities, and community-based engagements.
  • Consult with department, organization leadership and faculty regarding developmental challenges and recommendations (including external supports and services) necessary to enhance the student’s experience and assist in development.
  • Collaborate with Class Teachers and Clinical Partners on the completion of student developmental assessments as needed.
  • Participate in class parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences and clinical care team meetings and goal setting as needed.
  • Document the families assessments and progress in the student’s electronic record.
  • Maintain compliance with regard to state, federal and CHI guidelines.

Education (including licenses, certifications):

  • Master’s degree in a Behavioral and Health Sciences Preferred (Social Work, Psychology, Nutrition, etc.)

Experience required and preferred:

  • Minimum of 3-years experience, working with children and families, preferred.
  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Evidence-based best practices, trauma informed services and client-centered treatment.
  • Understanding of community-based resources in the Lancaster region, preferred.

Skill Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Comfort working with computer
  • Demonstrate a high comfort working with diverse populations and an understanding of the cultural and social barriers that can exist when accessing health or health-related care.
  • Promote a positive team-based approach to treatment and care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.35 - $28.61 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
