What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Guide position at Chiaravalle Montessori School?
Chiaravalle Montessori School, in partnership with Evanston Township High School, is excited to announce a new employment opportunity during the summer for high school students seeking to gain experience working in an educational setting. The Junior Guide position will work with Chiaravalle’s summer staff to support the summer school program for ages 2-3 and/or 4-6. The position will accustom Junior Guides to a Toddler and/or Early Childhood setting, familiarize them with the routine of young children’s days, and acclimate them to the expectations of working as a team member to further children’s development.
Our 2025 summer school is a 9 week program that begins on June 10th and ends August 9th. The summer school program is organized in 3 sessions: June 9th - June 27th, June 30th - July 18th, and July 21st - August 6th. Guide positions are offered all 3 sessions from 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Junior Guides may work 1, 2, or all 3 of the sessions. Junior Guides are expected to attend training prior to program start, as well as two days of classroom set up for those Junior Guides working during the first session.
The Junior Guide’s responsibilities include maintaining supervision and safety inside the classroom and outdoors on the playground, regularly communicating with head and assistant teachers, and building relationships with students. Junior Guides will also help prepare the classroom, including helping with snack and lunch, assisting napping students, and reorganizing materials at the end of the day. While summer school at Chiaravalle does not utilize Montessori materials, Chiaravalle Montessori School believes that, as Maria Montessori wrote, “children are human beings to whom respect is due,” and summer school puts this into action by treating even the youngest students as capable.
