DINING ROOM CAPTAIN JOB DESCRIPTION
Dining Room Captains are responsible for partnering with a team of front and back server / s to serve guests, and assisting in leading wine and beverage service. Responsible for exceeding guests’ expectations by providing efficient, friendly guest service. Teamwork, enthusiasm, food and wine knowledge, the ability to multitask and a high energy level are necessary for success in this position.
Essential Functions
Lead and partner with a team of front and back servers to serve guests, including head tables and VIP tablesProvide efficient, friendly guest service to an assigned section of table / s including but not limited to following all steps of service and bussing the tables to ensure a positive guest experienceAssist the sommelier or wine steward in leading wine and beverage service, including but not limited to making recommendations, suggesting pairings with particular menu items, decanting bottles and serving wine Accurately record and account for all items ordered, process payments, and balance all sales / receipts in compliance with restaurant policies and proceduresSafely and effectively transport food or beverages to a table of three in a single tripSafely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipmentAbility to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken directionAvailable to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekendsAbility to multitask calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environmentWork in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levelsAble to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and / or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and / or lift up to 50 poundsAbility to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfacesKey Responsibilities and Duties
Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and anticipate guests’ needsGreet guests with a warm, sincere smileUse tact and good judgement when dealing with guest challenges and respond with patience and courtesyUnderstand and respond knowledgeably to questions about the restaurant and menuUse effective sales techniques when presenting promotions to guestsFollow all steps of serviceUnderstand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders / restrictionsProficiency in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment, including the POS system and Frequent Diner, Gift Card and Credit Card terminalsComply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and proceduresSuccessfully complete alcohol awareness trainingFollow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee HandbookGet along well with others and be a team playerOther duties will be assigned as needed
