Reports to: Director, Performance Psychology

Duration: 10 weeks (June to August 2025)

**All internships will require you to be in-office at the United Center and we do not provide any relocation or housing assistance**

The Chicago Blackhawks are leaders and innovators in the application of performance psychology services within professional sports. The Department of Performance Psychology is looking for a motivated individual with advanced training in mental health and/or mental performance. The goal of the summer internship is to provide high-impact professional experience for someone striving to deliver mental health/mental performance services in professional athletics. Specifically, this internship will support programming development and delivery as well as assist in a high-priority research initiative. This position will be overseen by and work closely with members of the Department of Performance Psychology. 

How You’ll Contribute:

• Conceptualization and execution of archival and qualitative research initiatives
• Support for ongoing performance psychology projects/initiatives
• Developing and presenting new performance psychology resources
• Delivery of formal report of findings to hockey operations leadership 

Player Stats and Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree
• Graduate level course experience in mental health or a mental performance related field   
• Qualitative research experience (familiar with diverse methodology and data analysis techniques)
• Proven project-management skills and timeliness when working towards a deadline
• Extensive interest in performance psychology topics, research, and literature
• Proficiently utilize computers, software, and remote collaboration technology
• Demonstrates sophisticated multicultural understanding (e.g. race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, national origin) of self in the context of others (e.g., biases, EQ)
• Excellent ability to communicate, written-presentation-orally, within diverse groups and personnel 
• Outstanding awareness of maintaining appropriate boundaries and maintaining high levels of privacy and confidentiality
• Ability to address, adapt to, and overcome challenges in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Demonstrated aptitude for driving results
• High attention to detail
• Demonstrates Chicago Blackhawks core values of integrity, curiosity, empathy, collaboration, and originality

The Team:

The Chicago Blackhawks started their journey as one of the NHL’s “Original Six” professional ice hockey teams in 1926.  Members of the Central Division in the NHL’s Western Conference and six-time Stanley Cup Champions (1934, 1938, 1961, 2010, 2013, 2015), the team calls the United Center home.
