Overview:
The custodian is responsible for ensuring clean and well-maintained areas within the facilities of the Garden. The custodian will assist in setting up and cleaning up from special events and supporting other departments. This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, 3 to 11:30 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role you will be responsible for the following:
- Perform daily and weekly routine cleaning and custodial maintenance on building facilities
- Remove trash and collect recyclables from all designated areas in the Garden
- Set up and take down props and equipment and clean up from special events, classes, shows, parties, symposia etc.
- Receive, document and distribute deliveries from specified dock areas to all areas on the grounds
- Pick up and deliver various items from all buildings on grounds and storage areas off and on the grounds
- Undertake special cleaning projects including cleaning carpets, waxing floors, scrubbing walls and cleaning glass.
- Remove snow and use ice melt on sidewalks, porticoes, driveways, stairways, pedestrian entrances and classrooms at trailers (To be performed at designated areas.)
- Assist the manager of Custodial Services in other areas as required

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Two years of custodial experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license insurable by the Chicago Horticultural Society
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees & visitors
Physical Demands:
Ability to operate floor equipment and must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 30 lbs, and be licensed driver insurable by the Chicago Botanic Garden.
