OUR STORY
THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:
The Manager, Scheduling and Planning will play a critical role in operational planning by managing scheduling processes, coordinating procedural improvements, coordinating reporting and auditing, maintaining system organization, and supporting procurement research and scheduling. Additionally, this position will lead a team of scheduling administrators to ensure the effective execution of work schedules for over 1,000 part-time and seasonal associates. The role requires a strategic mindset to enhance efficiency, leverage technology, and provide best-in-class service to internal and external stakeholders.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
- Oversee scheduling processes to meet internal staffing needs and third-party group requests, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established standards.
- Support the creation of monthly schedules and address staffing concerns as needed.
- Lead a team of part-time administrative staff in scheduling and workforce management.
- Develop and execute regular reporting to support workforce planning, staffing models, and labor efficiency assessments.
- Compile and organize data for ad hoc reporting requests, translating research findings into clear, concise, and actionable reports or presentations.
- Support automation efforts to enhance reporting capabilities, enabling data-driven decision-making for Operations leaders.
- Maintain and enhance systems, programs, and databases routinely utilized by the Operations department and proactively identify opportunities to improve scheduling operations and data tracking through existing or new technology solutions.
- Facilitate the documentation and retention of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new purchasing and scheduling methods.
- Assist department managers with procurement projects, including ordering schedules, vendor management, and pricing and feasibility research.
- Support and manage Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for large-scale projects.
- Continuously evaluate and improve procurement by identifying sourcing and cost reduction opportunities.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly spreadsheets, with experience in data collection, evaluation, and visual presentation of recommendations.
- At least two years working experience with system management and data integrity.
- More than three years experience working within a complex and/or CBA represented workforce.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of an organization
- Passion and commitment to delivering a high level of service and timely responses to internal clients, external vendors and partners.
- Demonstrated capability to compartmentalize complex, time intensive work into manageable, smaller milestones.
- Openness to creativity, innovation, and change.
- Ability to occasionally work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.
WHAT SETS YOU APART:
- 4-year undergraduate degree at an accredited university or college in the field of Business, Hospitality, Human Resources, or Finance, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Certification in business process improvement, business decision modeling, or re-engineering concepts using techniques such as Design Thinking, Lean, or Six Sigma.
- Proven experience in procurement including development and completion of requests for proposals (RFPs), vendor award, contract execution, and overall process management.
