Program Description: Students in grades 4-8 will have the special opportunity to experience what its like to be a young artist at ChiArts. For almost five hours a day, students will be immersed in excellent professional training in the conservatory of their choice and present a final showcase/gallery reception and performances on Friday, July 25th.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Instructor compensated for 5.0 hours/day.
Job Summary:
The Band Instructor will design and deliver a general, creative music curriculum for daily
classes to students, divided into two cohorts, 5 days a week. The instructor should
focus on instrumental play and various instrumental skills. We currently accept students who play the following instruments:
- flute
- oboe
- clarinet
- bassoon
- saxophone
- trumpet
- French horn
- trombone
- baritone
- tuba
- percussion
Students signing up for the band program must have a minimum of one year of experience with their instrument. Students can be as young as fourth grade (rising for the following school year) to participate. This is the one ChiArts Summer Camp program for which we accept students of elementary age.
The Band Instructor will also Music Direct the All-Conservatory musical theatre production. The instructor will also need to collaborate with the Theatre Instructor/Director for the performance on the last day of camp. In addition, the instructor will organize and host engaging and fun afternoon activities relating to music classes and prepare students for the final performance. Finally, instructors will serve as role models and mentors for ChiArts student apprentices who are seriously interested in gaining experience in teaching and sharing through the arts.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to commit to working for the entire three weeks of camp, July 7 July 25, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-2:00pm
- Required to submit curricular plan ahead of time for review
- Required to submit supply list ahead of time
- Background check on file with the school required
- Experience in middle school curriculum development and teaching is a plus
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have outstanding communication skills
- Organization, leadership and a dedication to working with children is essential
- Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Must attend an info meeting (dates TBD) and (tentatively) a PD on working with middle schoolers prior to the start of camp
