Position Summary
The ideal ESL Teacher will create a dynamic learning environment that challenges and inspires students to achieve high academic standards while meeting their individual language development needs. Our ESL Teacher will differentiate instruction, design engaging lessons, and use data-driven strategies to ensure all students thrive.
Key Responsibilities
As an ESL Teacher, you will:
- Implement trauma-informed, restorative justice, and anti-racist teaching practices.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons and units that foster oral and written language proficiency, critical thinking, and ethical application.
- Develop tailored strategies to help students succeed in both ChiArts curriculum and standardized assessments.
- Collaborate with colleagues to establish best practices for our diverse student population.
- Design, administer, and evaluate student assessments to measure growth and inform instruction.
- Integrate technology to enhance learning experiences.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills aligned with our school code of conduct.
- Provide consistent, meaningful feedback on student progress.
- Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events.
- Serve as a student advisor and contribute to the advisory program.
- Maintain regular communication with parents to support student success.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, the ESL Teacher must have:
- A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
- Illinois PEL with endorsements in ESL or a related field.
- Experience working with at-risk youth and diverse student populations.
- Strong curriculum development skills and knowledge of backward design principles.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to reflective teaching practices and continuous improvement.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with teams and adapt to new challenges.
