This position will participate in & assist with CMAP’s transportation modeling activities, which provides data analysis & quantitative modeling in support of CMAP’s planning work. Specifically, the intern will assist CMAP’s modeling staff in developing, updating, and performing quality control activities on input datasets that support agency modeling tools. The intern may also be asked to interpret and summarize analysis results. This position may also require the intern to search for and review reports to support research activities.
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is our region’s comprehensive planning organization. The agency and its partners are implementing ON TO 2050, a long-range plan to help the seven counties and 284 communities of northeastern Illinois implement strategies that address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues. Duties and responsibilities:
- Gain hands on experience with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations. Assist in the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure project goals are met within the specified timeline.
- Learn and utilize project management tools to track progress and communicate with team members.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings, offering insights and suggestions for improvement.
- Support project managers in various administrative tasks related to project coordination.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of project documentation.

Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a bachelor's program and entering junior or senior status or a master’s program by fall 2024.
- Interest in urban planning, regional planning, or related field.
- Strong research, analysis (both qualitative & quantitative), and communication skills.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems software, scripting languages, and statistical analysis applications (e.g., Python, R, SAS) is desired.
Compensation for Intern: $20 hour
