Title: Laborer (Maintenance)
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under immediate supervision, performs common labor work necessary in general maintenance work. Operates any mechanical or power-driven apparatus or equipment essential to the performance of the duties of this position. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Operates a hand lawn mower.
- Picks up paper.
- Spades, seeds, waters and rake lawn areas.
- Sweeps sidewalks and roadway gutters.
- Marks lines on softball and baseball diamonds, running tracks, tennis courts and football fields.
- Cleans catch basins.
- Removes snow and ice.
- Spreads sanding materials and makes and maintains ice for skating.
- Operates special equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Performs labor work in connection with removing, planting or trimming trees.
- Digs trenches.
- Assists in sowing flower beds and performs necessary maintenance works in greenhouses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Experience in performing manual labor work. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
License Requirement: Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate maintenance equipment in a safe an efficient manner. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to respond to routine inquiries from the public.
