Title: Recreation Leader (TRACE) β Seasonal
TRACE (Teens Re-Imagining Art, Community & Environment) Program Description: TRACE is a six-week arts and civic engagement program for teens that promotes community awareness of environmental and social justice issues, job skills and leadership development. All staff are responsible for collaborating with lead artists through a community-based curatorial project from start to finish while developing leadership skills that promote and encourage civic responsibility and citizenship. Under direct supervision, provides leadership support for activities with teens participating in the TRACE program. The position involves working closely with counselors and program facilitator to plan and implement summer projects. Serves as a role model for TRACE philosophy and culture. Performs related duties as assigned or required.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under direct supervision, provides recreational activities for children ages 3 years old and up during the operation of day camp activities. Performs related duties as assigned or required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Accompany groups of children on field trips to educational institutions, public functions or recreational activities.
- Provide adult supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of children. Lead and participate in games, drills and agility exercises.
- Read to children and teach simple painting, drawing, songs and similar recreation activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School or an equivalent certification (GED) is required but may be waived for seasonal employees who are referred through special hiring programs. Candidates for this position must have reached their 16th birthday at time of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with individuals or groups of children from ages 3 years old and older; Basic knowledge of children's games and recreation activities; Effective oral communication skills; Ability to enforce safety rules; Ability to lead physical, recreational and leisure activities; Ability to exercise good judgment.
