The Office of Inspector General is the independent oversight body for Chicago’s approximately 650 public, contract, and charter schools. The Office of Inspector General is charged with the responsibility of investigating allegations of waste, fraud, and financial mismanagement in public education within the jurisdiction of the Chicago Board of Education. The Office's Sexual Allegations Unit investigates allegations of sexual misconduct by a CPS-affiliated adult, including employees, contractors, vendors, and charter schools, where the victim is a CPS student and / or a minor.

Job Summary :

Reporting to the Inspector General, the Deputy Inspector General, Sexual Allegations Unit will direct investigations and manage the OIG’s Sexual Allegations Unit, which is tasked with investigating allegations of sexual abuse and / or harassment of CPS students by CPS-affiliated adults.This is a full-time exempt position that will be paid for time worked based on an salary basis.

This Job Will be held accountable for the following responsibilities :

  • Direct SAU teams, managers, investigators and support staff involved in case intake, case management, special projects, report drafting, and case closing to ensure compliance with OIG and SAU protocols and practices
  • Review and edit investigative summary reports
  • Monitor assignments and track performance to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion in compliance with established quality control standards, provide guidance and support on concerns to ensure efficient operations
  • Coordinate with outside law enforcement entities, child protection agencies, CPS’s Office of Student Protections, and others, as appropriate
  • Analyze and interpret CPS policy and state and federal laws applicable to SAU investigations and projects
  • Manage the drafting of presentations to the Board of Education concerning SAU matters
  • Develop training opportunities for SAU staff in relevant subject areas for investigating adult-to-student sexual misconduct and other related misconduct
  • Participate in developing office policies and operating procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Juris Doctor degree or advanced degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience Required :

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of overall professional experience in investigations, government oversight, law enforcement, criminal / administrative prosecutions, ethics, or labor / employment law
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Complex investigative experience in one or more of the following areas : child abuse or endangerment, sexual harassment, and related fieldsPrior government experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to show leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to delegate assignments and tasks to staff efficiently while simultaneously monitoring the progress of multiple tasks.
  • Ability to interpret data and evidence thoroughly and correctly
  • Must be an advanced writer with the ability to draft reports and other written work products on schedule and with clarity.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality, with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels of a large governmental organization
  • Conditions of Employment :

    As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to :

  • Establish / Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary / part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
