Located within the Office of Teaching and Learning (T&L), the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Digital Learning (CIDL) oversees the district's comprehensive Pre-K through 12th-grade curriculum and digital ecosystem, Skyline. Skyline includes a wide range of functionality to help support all of the content and instructional needs of every educator and student at Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
Job Summary :
Reporting to the Director of Digital Learning and Libraries, the Digital Learning Design and Instructional GenAI Manager will manage the digital learning vision for the Office of T&L, collaborating with colleagues across CIDL, Information and Technology Services, and other CPS teams to support the development and execution of the district’s instructional GenAI (generative artificial intelligence) strategy. This position will proactively and holistically guide the development, integration, and transformation of the district’s Digital Learning Environment to ensure that the district meets and maintains its responsibility to provide universal access to high-quality curriculum, meaningful assessments, and research-based academic interventions in a safe and secure environment, as articulated in the Continuous Improvement and Data Transparency Policy. Additionally, the Digital Learning Design and Instructional GenAI Manager will engage with district-wide and national stakeholders to stay abreast of trends in instructional technology innovation and will collaborate with internal teams to develop paths for the selection, purchase, and utilization of innovative instructional technology resources.
Responsibilities :
Digital Learning Environment Design
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the district’s Digital Learning Environment (DLE) based on Universal Design for Learning, accessibility, user experience / user interface design (UX / UI), and cognitive load reduction.
- Oversee all protocols and policies for DLE design.
- Manage the development of roadmaps, use cases, and workflows aligned to the DLE vision for key stakeholders including but not limited to : teachers, school leaders, students, families, curriculum designers, professional learning specialists.
- Manage the creation and maintenance of testing plans, implementation project plans, and error resolution for the DLE.
- Establish continuous improvement processes to ensure the DLE is iterative and evolving in alignment with District strategies and academic goals.
- Ensure that the design of the DLE protects licensed content and intellectual property rights.
- Manage stakeholder feedback on DLE design, including but not limited to input from teachers, school leaders, students, families, curriculum designers, and professional learning staff.
- Manage DLE load time reduction to improve the usability of the instructional, assessment, and intervention-based resources.
- Ensure that DLE partners adhere to standards for integration and interoperability and participate in our district SSO and rostering solution and / or platform.
- Manage the technical standardization of all academic standards in the Digital Learning Environment under CASE (Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange).
- Ensure the standardized formatting for academic standards and district frameworks allows for cross-walking, metadata management, data analytics, interdisciplinary design, and equitable grading practices.
- Ensure that the district’s universal curriculum, assessment, and intervention-based resources are compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards.
- Ensure that the metadata affiliated with the district’s universal curriculum, assessment, and intervention-based resources is kept up-to-date.
