What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Chicago Stars FC?
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant has primary responsibility for daily, monthly, and annual accounting processes. He/she analyzes and administers the company's daily financial operations and activity on a timely basis in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the Company’s accounting policies and procedures. The Staff Accountant also assists with the Company’s A/P and A/R processes to maintain strong vendor and customer relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and record the financial activity of the Company during monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures.
- Ensure all revenues, expenses, and balance sheet items are recorded and result in accurate and timely presentation of the financial condition of the Company in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations to include analysis and support independent of the general ledger to validate the accuracy and completeness of financial activity and presentation of assets and liabilities.
- Perform monthly variance analysis on financial results compared to budgeted and historical data. Clearly document results of variance analysis to support monthly financial statement review of actuals.
- Serve as a resource for general questions related to accounting, general ledger coding, and financial reporting. Assist in the evaluation and presentation of financial impacts of department activities.
- Assist in calculating taxes, filing returns, and initiating tax payments for the Company.
- Elevate accounting and close issues to management, as deemed necessary, and support resolution of issues raised.
- Evaluate current accounting procedures to identify opportunities for continuous improvement to increase the efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes.
- Assist with the implementation of new accounting guidance, as applicable.
- Perform specified tasks within the A/P process, including setting up new vendors, maintaining vendor records, uploading invoices, evaluating vendor invoices for use tax, assisting with the 1099 process, and supporting the Company’s transition to a new A/P system.
- Perform specified tasks within the A/R process, including setting up new customers, maintaining existing customers, preparing invoices, voids, debit/credit transactions, and applying payments.
- Assist in the preparation of the Company’s annual plan and monthly projection update process.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A four-year undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 1 year of accounting and/or audit experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong accounting knowledge, interpersonal skills, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in an organized manner and manage time efficiently and effectively
- Ability to prioritize workload; take ownership and administer projects with little guidance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Public accounting experience
- CPA or progression toward CPA
- Experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Insights, Chrome River

Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
