What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community & Camps Summer Intern position at Chicago Stars Football Club?
The Community Department Intern will report to the Manager, Community Relations, and the Administrative Manager, Camps and Clinics, and will have the opportunity to work closely with the Community Department and Chicago Stars Front Office staff. This intern will have the opportunity to be a part of the process of connecting with community groups, planning engagement and activations, facilitating youth soccer programming, and executing partnerships from start to finish. This opportunity is for someone passionate about women and girls in sports, enjoys engaging with people of all backgrounds, and wants to use their skills and resources to make a positive impact in local communities.
Primary Responsibilities:

- Ticket donation requests
- Camp registrations
- Help gather and prepare materials for various Community and Camp events across the Chicagoland area.
- Attend community events, directly engaging with the public and promoting the club, including events in the evenings and over the weekend.
- Attend camp events and engage with kids and parents, ensuring they have a positive experience in soccer programming.
- Attend match days, supporting where necessary and engaging positively with fans.
- Assist in compiling a monthly newsletter.
- Participate in internal and external meetings and help in making connections with community groups, planning events, etc.
- Research into organizations and events across Chicagoland to help ensure the community department is aware of opportunities across the city.
- Assist with camps/clinics coaching when/if needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Passion for women’s soccer or women’s sports in general and a willingness to engage with fans and the public about it. An existing knowledge of the Chicago Stars and the NWSL is a plus.
- Desire to be present in communities across the Chicagoland area and provide support to underserved groups.
- Ability and willingness to show a positive, inviting face and engage with people who have varying levels of knowledge of soccer, the NWSL, and the Red Stars.
- Ability and willingness to travel to camps and events across the Chicagoland area.
- Exceptional writing skills, essential for effective communication and outreach.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals, including Chicago Stars front office staff, sporting staff, and Community Partners.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel preferred. Experience with Canva is a plus.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
Education and Experience:
- This position is intended for students during their undergraduate or graduate degree.
- Experience interacting with activations and fan bases.
- Experience with event planning/management is encouraged.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk, actively engaging with people, for several hours at a time.
Hours Expectations and Salary:
- The Community Intern is expected to work 20 hours per week, including in-office and event work hours
- Interns who are eligible for payment with no institutional restrictions will receive up to $18/hour.
- If your school will not allow an intern to be paid due to academic requirement restrictions, we will need that information documented in writing to consider before finalizing an offer.
- Final offers are contingent upon the successful completion of background checks.
