Job Description Summary
The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, and Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees with concentrations in Gospel Music or Music Production.
Primary Duties will include :
- Serve as the Director of the CSU Marching / Concert Band and oversee all aspects of the band program, which includes the band staff, auxiliary, drum line and media teams.
- Conduct performances at both internal and external events, representing the university with pride and professionalism.
- Supervise and train performers to prepare them for events.
- Serve as a mentor to students to aid in retention, persistence, and graduation.
- Maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient to students.
- Maintain and oversee program budget, including scholarships and stipends for Marching Band students and auxiliary, in partnership with the Dean of Students, Director of Financial Services, and Music Chair.
- Assist in fund-raising for the marching band.
- Lead recruiting efforts for the Marching Band and provide support for recruiting efforts with the CSU Admissions department.Teach / coordinate the summer marching band camp and activities.
- Teach within the music program in accordance with your background and the department's needs.
Teaching : This faculty position is expected to teach up to 36 credit unit equivalence per year; develop syllabi and teaching materials (ability to organize, analyze, and present knowledge or materials) related to courses taught; and collaborate with other faculty in the development of new courses and / or programs. In addition, faculty advises students, supervises, participates in professional development activities, as well as engages in assessment activities related to accreditation and program evaluation. The primary duties include teaching and related activities assigned during an academic year. It is expected that the faculty will support the University's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by making teaching inclusive for students of different ethnic backgrounds, genders, and socioeconomic statuses. |
Research / Creative Activity : Faculty members are expected to engage in research and creative activity germane to the music discipline.
Service : Faculty members are expected to serve on committees, programs, and / or special task forces at the department, college, university, professional, and community levels; and assume leadership roles over time and as they increase in rank. These activities are not for compensation and have a relationship to the employee's assigned responsibilities and to the university.
Required Education
Doctorate in music preferred. Master's degree in music or music education required.
A Master's degree plus an additional 30 hours of graduate course work is required for tenure.
