Job Description
  • Provide program-wide early education leadership, direction, and implementation within the written program plan for children birth to five years of age, including children with special needs using grant funding standards, NAEYC accreditation standards; Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Early Learning Standards and Early Learning Guidelines for Birth -3.
  • Ensure the required curriculum is implemented and provides appropriate environments and comprehensive developmental services for all students including those with diverse leaning/developmental needs.
  • Serve as the designated Director in absence of the Director, maintaining the overall management and administration of the program.
  • Assist the Director with family and staff recruitment, and the Dean of Education with staff interviews, selections, orientation, supervision, ongoing professional development, and evaluation.
  • Serve as the Infant-Toddler Specialist ensuring all education and child development standards are met and implemented appropriately in all early preschool infant-toddler classrooms.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing child assessment process that is linked to curriculum goals and provides for the collection of information on children’s progress through direct teacher observations, developmental assessment tools and child portfolios.
  • Utilize the program’s child outcome data, and child development research to improve curriculum and innovative program change.
  • Develop and maintain a system which ensures that each child receives a developmental screening within 45 days of enrollment.
  • Ensure that the program meets federal/state/accreditation regulations for education services and staffing requirements.
  • Develop and maintain systems that involve parents in the development of the program’s curriculum, staff-parents conferences, and home visits.
  • Development and implement an annual written teacher education training plan for all teaching staff in collaboration with other key manager.
  • Development and maintain a system of individual professional development planning that supports continued teacher improvement and credential attainment, as required by agency and funding requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an internal early child development and education monitoring system, including issues identified as part of the annual self-assessment process and child outcome data collection.
  • Act as team leader, as part of an interdisciplinary team, in addressing the ongoing needs of special needs children and their families, including decisions to refer for formal evaluation, development and implementation of an IFSP or IEP, classroom/home program planning, and advocacy.
  • Participate in cross-component planning with the director and other content area managers/consultants in support of interdisciplinary services to children and families including disability services and integrating all educational aspects of the health, nutrition, and mental health services into program activities.
  • Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals, student teachers, practicum students, education related interns, and classroom volunteers.
  • Uses curriculum, assessment, and program database tools to capture reporting data, monitor implementation of curriculum and assessment, develop education outcome reports, and use data to set educational goals for the program.
  • Serve the liaison Education, and Parent Involvement Committees, and other appropriate organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or related equivalent with a minimum 21 semester credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Full-time early childhood teacher.
  • Have attained or demonstrated the ability to attain an Illinois Gateway Level 5 Infant Toddler Credential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in early childhood education (ECE), Child Development.
  • Level 5 Infant/Toddler and ECE Illinois Gateway credentials.
  • Two years of program management experience.
  • Level II Illinois Gateway Director’s Credential.

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to adjust actions in relation to others’ actions.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to utilize various computer software packages, such as Accounting Software, query, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems
  • Ability to analyze and develop guidelines, procedures and systems
