SALARY

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of construction and general laboring tasks on Authority buildings, facilities and other properties.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mixes, pours, transports, and spreads concrete, mortar, plaster and other materials.
- Digs trenches, footing holes and similar excavations and refills trenches with excavated material, using pick and shovel.
- Uses hand tools to break and remove bricks, blocks, and other material from Authority properties.
- Shovels material into wheelbarrows and trucks for disposal.
- Carries or hoists bricks, blocks, mortar and other material up to job on ladders or scaffolds.
- Cleans tools, equipment, materials and work areas.
- Performs certain laboring task for bricklayers including setting up tools, equipment, scaffolds and ladders, picking up materials and equipment from storage areas for delivery to work area and cleaning up work area after work is completed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass applicable tests.
- Required to possess the communication skills necessary to understand verbal and written instructions relating to this position.
- Must be familiar with various types of hand tools (picks, shovels, sledgehammers, etc.) and be able to use them in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must have a valid state of Illinois driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive amount of lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, and climbing.
- Required to lift, carry and maneuver materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works out of doors in all types of weather conditions.
- Works near 600-volt third rail or near moving vehicles.
- Travels throughout the Authority service area.
- Works from ladders and scaffolding.
- Exposed to usual construction site condition (loud noise, dirt and fumes).

- Picks, shovels, sledgehammers, etc.
Rate to be determined by applicant's entered service date and service date in union jurisdiction of this classification.
