What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guidance Counselor- High School position at Chichester School District?
Duties and Responsibilities: Senior High School Guidance Counselor shall counsel students with personal problems and/or education concerns to facilitate increased learning. He/she shall work with students, parent/guardians, teachers, administrators and resource people to try to improve the individual student's education experience.
- Counsel students individually and/or in groups
- Advise and provide information to parents/guardians and teachers
- Collect information for special reports from teachers, students, and records.
- Assist students filling out application forms for school, financial aid and jobs.
- Prepare student transcripts for schools, employers, etc.
- Serve on individualized education program (IEP) teams when deemed appropriate.
- Assist the High Principal in coordination and administering the testing program.
- Coordinate and set up visits of representatives from colleges, technical schools,etc.
- Facilitates teacher understanding of emotinal issues effecting classroom performance.
- Monitor student's academic progress.
- Foster positive personal/social development in students.
- Provide counseling/crisis intervention as needed.
- Other duties assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree- PA K-12 Counseling Certification
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to multitask - manage time effectively
- Proficiency with using various forms of technology .
- Ability to respond to a variety of student calls and/or emails in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Min. of 3 years experience
