Position Overview:
The Varsity Girls Flag Football Head Coach will be responsible for leading and developing the high school girls flag football team. This individual will create a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes while ensuring their academic, athletic, and personal growth. The coach will oversee all aspects of the team, including coaching, scheduling, recruitment, and player development, all while adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
Responsibilities:
- Coaching and Development:
- Lead and coach the Varsity Girls Flag Football team during practices and games.
- Develop and implement practice schedules, strategies, and drills.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among players.
- Develop a game strategy based on individual strengths and team cohesion.
- Provide individual player feedback to improve performance, skills, and overall understanding of the game.
- Team Management and Supervision:
- Manage team rosters, including player attendance, equipment, and uniforms.
- Supervise assistant coaches, ensuring effective coaching methods and adherence to team rules.
- Monitor and support the academic and personal well-being of student-athletes.
- Organize and execute team events such as practice sessions, pre-game preparation, and post-game reviews.
- Compliance and Administration:
- Adhere to the PIAA rules and regulations for high school sports.
- Maintain accurate records of practices, games, player participation, and achievements.
- Ensure the safety of all players and maintain compliance with all safety protocols.
- Attend mandatory coaching clinics and educational programs as required by the district and PIAA.
- Communicate effectively with parents, administrators, and athletic staff regarding team matters.
- Recruitment and Community Engagement:
- Work closely with the Athletic Director to recruit student-athletes for the team.
- Foster positive relationships with the broader school community and flag football organizations.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Prior coaching experience in football (preferably flag football or a related discipline) at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong understanding of the game of football, including strategy, rules, and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor student-athletes, promoting positive athletic and academic performance.
- Familiarity with PIAA rules and regulations for high school sports.
- Ability to motivate and develop athletes in a positive, encouraging environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Certifications:
- NFHS Level I and Level II Coaching Certifications are required within one year of hire.
(These certifications can be obtained through the NFHS online training courses.) - CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within one year of hire.
Preferred:
- Previous experience coaching flag football or working with high school athletes.
- Knowledge of the latest trends in flag football and coaching methods.
- Proven track record of coaching success and player development.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, seasonal position with hours that include weekday practices, evening games, and weekend tournaments (as applicable).
- Must be available for the entire season, including off-season training as required.
- Must maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to the school district’s coaching standards and ethical guidelines.
