Job Summary:
The Airport Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of airport facilities, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operations. This is a part-time non-exempt (hourly) position that will run from May through August. This position is supervised by the Airport Manager and/or the City Manager. This position exercises no supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide exceptional customer service to pilots, contractors, residents, and on-site businesses. Maintain a professional, courteous, and approachable demeanor in all interactions with airport users, contractors, and colleagues.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully, both verbally and in writing, with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
- Must maintain a strong awareness of the airport’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer care.
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of airport runways, taxiways, aprons, and other paved surfaces.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of airport lighting systems, including runway lights, taxiway lights, and navigational aids.
- Inspect, service, and repair airport ground support equipment such as fuel trucks and aircraft tugs.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of airport buildings, including hangars, terminals, and administrative facilities including maintenance of public areas and restroom facilities.
- Conduct inspections and maintenance of airport fencing, gates, and security systems to ensure compliance with safety and security regulations.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations such as aircraft incidents, fuel spills, or weather-related damage to airport infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs performed, including logging work orders, and completing required documentation including use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs as necessary.
- Receive payments and process deposits from cash collections at the airport facility.
- Collaborate with airport management and other airport staff to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure minimal disruption to airport operations.
- Participate in training programs and stay updated on industry best practices, regulations, and technological advancements relevant to airport maintenance and operations.
- Perform snow and limb removal operations during inclement weather events to maintain safe runway and taxiway conditions.
- Maintain landscaped areas and vegetation by mowing, trimming, and application of herbicides and pesticides.
- Represent the City and Airport when the Airport Manager is not present.
- Perform aviation fuel test and quality control inspections.
- Maintain a fuel farm to promptly respond to customers after hours for fueling of aircraft with Avgas and JetA fuel.
- Be available to answer the Unicon and Airport customers and visitors, provide information concerning weather conditions and runway use, assist with fueling procedures, provide information regarding the Airport and businesses located on Airport grounds in an efficient, effective and professional manner.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification required; vocational training or certification in aviation maintenance, building and/or grounds maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery safely and effectively.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment and infrastructure issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact professionally with airport users and stakeholders.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours, as needed.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be able to perform duties that include frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
- Must have a valid Oklahoma drivers license.
- Must be bondable.
This classification is a “safety sensitive” position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
Working Conditions
The work environment will include regularly working outside in all weather conditions, working near moving mechanical parts and some exposure to vibration and moderate noise.
