Safety Program Manager Purpose:
- The Safety Program Manager ensures workplace safety with the goal of reducing injury and related legal issues. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and the Safety Program Manager is responsible to oversee the development of safety awareness in all employees.
- The Safety Program Manager will assist in the management, planning, administering, training, implementing and coordinating the Company’s safety program. Like project performance and client service, the well-being of the team and the public is an essential value that guides our actions. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and enforce all company safety policies and procedures
- Train and educate all personnel on OSHA and ANSI standards as required, from hire to retire
- Work with president and project management to address specific identified safety needs
- Conduct safety audits on sites on a regular basis for compliance with the Company’s safety program
- Maintain all required job safety records including all jobsite safety audits
- Facilitate or conduct toolbox talks
- Act as liaison between the general contractor/owner and any subcontractors
- Assist in accident/incident/near-miss investigations
- Oversee injury triage, and documentation of all industrial injuries
- Prepare and/or conduct appropriate project training as needed and maintain training documentation
- Maintain personal protection equipment order forms and stock, including safety apparel
- Continually review safety policies and procedures as requirements change
- Form and maintain safety committees, assist in preparation for monthly safety committee meetings
- Immediately report incidents to the president
- Follow through corrective actions and document
- Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new employee on a project and make record of their participation
- Documented instruction of site leads and supervisors on safety responsibilities, including site-specific reporting, hazard evaluations, and specific hazard preparation and personal protective equipment requirements
- Establish and facilitate regular (weekly) safety meetings with field teams and subcontractor representatives
- Review each subcontractor’s safety program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the project safety program requirements
- Prepare written reports of any violations or unsafe practices and report them to the president for immediate corrective actions. Develop action items and document corrective actions taken
- Immediately stop any violation or unsafe practice and impose disciplinary action
- Attend project staff meetings
- Develop and enforce safety disciplinary policy
- Maintain and/or become certified in relevant safety programs, i.e. (not limited to) OSHA 30 or 40, arc flash, equipment and tools
Job Qualifications:
- 2-10 years of safety experience with emphasis in construction and field related activities
- BS degree preferred
- Respectful, versatile and self-motivated safety professional
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and resolve problems in a timely manner without compromising the Company value of the well-being of our team or the public
- General knowledge of Construction Standards-CFR 1926
- Basic computer skills – Excel, Outlook, Windows, Word
- Ability to identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
- Ability to handle pressure and adapt to a variety of field conditions
- People oriented personality and aptitude to “sell” safety programs to field personnel
Financial Responsibility and Authority:
· Equipment: Maintain and replace all safety related apparatus and personal protective equipment.
· Financial: Set and maintain Safety Budget for entire program, under the guidance of risk managers / operations manager.
· Internal and External Business Contacts: One of the main safety contacts for our customers, and coordinating all sub-contractors.
· Supervisory: Overseeing the safety of all work of all employees working at Chico Electric.
