The Grant Writer is a team member of the Chief Seattle Club Community Development division, and the position primarily oversees public (federal, state, and local) and private grant writing for Chief Seattle Club programs and services. Under the supervision of the grants manager, this position will research, write and manage applications for funding to support existing and future projects (75%). As a provider of Permanent Supportive Housing and traditional wellness services, Chief Seattle Club's grants portfolio includes a rapidly growing and evolving public grants and contracts.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Research, evaluate and track private and public funding opportunities in current program areas and expanding or new programs.
  • Organize the grant writer workload to meet deadlines and ensure grants are polished and vetted fully in time for submission.
  • Compile, write and edit grant applications in concert with agency staff and leadership.
  • Working with the Grants Manager and Director of Development, develop and manage back-up grant writing resources for the organization.
  • Research and collect data to support need statement, objectives and evaluation criteria for proposals.
  • Coordinate grant applications between and among community and housing partners and Chief Seattle Club staff.
  • Assist program staff with grant follow-up, reporting, and invoicing as needed, ensuring compliance with the contract agreement and scope.
  • Perform other duties as situation requires or as assigned by supervisor.

Non-Essential Job Functions :

  • Develop and maintain key project documents to support grant writing workload, including regular workload reports and meetings, grant calendar / tracking, etc.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

    Education : Bachelor's Degree in related field

    Experience :

  • Two years' experience in research, grant development, and proposal writing, preferably in a government or non-profit agency, including writing grants as part of your work as part of program leadership work.
  • Demonstrated experience developing programs and writing grants for new funding opportunities related to housing, homelessness, and culturally responsive services.
  • Experience working with American Indian, Alaska Native, and First Nations people and organizations.
  • Experience working with budgeting, data management, research protocol and compliance requirements.
  • Licenses / Certifications :

    Technical Skills & Competencies :

  • Proficiency in MS Office products and web-based research tools.
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information resources.
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of our organization.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues and related social policy matters preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Soft Skills :

  • Ability to manage multiple, complex timelines for self and others (staff, partners, potential collaborators, et al.).
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include productivity / personal responsibility, client / customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
