General Responsibilities: The Housing and Systems Navigator will provide housing-focused supportive services to any youth and young adults throughout Ingham County who are unable to otherwise access sufficient case management or housing supports during their experience of homelessness. Services will be focused on resolving youth and young adults immediate housing crisis through housing problem-solving practices and housing search and placement, supporting access to mainstream benefits and resources, assisting with income maximization, and the provision of other services related to obtaining and maintaining permanent housing. and equipping them with the life skills needed to become self-sufficient.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Social Work, Psychology, or another human behavioral science. May consider lived experience of homelessness and navigating systems of care in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience providing direct services to at-risk youth and/or vulnerable families
  • Ability to work effectively with youth in crisis experiencing trauma and its effects
  • Able to demonstrate cultural humility (race/ethnicity, pregnant/parenting, LGBTQ , youth with disabilities, etc)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Outgoing personality required to build community partnerships, effectively navigate complex social service systems, and coordinate care both within CFC and a variety of external community agencies
  • Working knowledge and effective use of community resources. Comfortable making cold calls to connect to necessary resources in order to resolve housing and other individual crises.
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, databases)
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle available for use during work hours as needed
  • Flexibility of work schedule to meet the needs of youth.

Duties

  • Help facilitate new relationships by way of continuous outreach and networking with community providers to support youth in acquiring and maintaining permanent housing.
  • Engage landlords and other housing providers to identify available affordable and accessible housing options for youth experiencing housing instability acting as a liaison between landlord and client as needed
  • Maintain ongoing connection with youth to ensure continuity of care and offer housing problem-solving as they navigate through the housing search and placement process
  • Assist youth and young adults to resolve immediate housing crises by connecting them to emergency shelters and other housing programs and services including basic care needs
  • Assist participants with completing housing applications and securing housing
  • Provide assessment and referrals to community resources needed to sustain permanent housing, building a positive support network for youth to prevent future crises
  • Work closely with the Data Specialist to maintain high quality data. Monitor client case files for completeness and thoroughness.
  • Be an effective team member whose behavior and actions are supportive of co-workers and the administrative policies set forth by the agency.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
