Job Duties
Child Care Managers are responsible for setting the tone for the facility, managing the curriculum, overseeing physical facilities, hiring/managing staff and managing the overall image of the center. They also ensure compliance with all local and federal laws governing child care, both in regard to the physical environment and the staff. Child Care Center Managers work directly with the Center Director to help in the overall management of daily operations .
Curriculum Development
Center Managers work with the Center Director and qualified center staff to develop an appropriate curriculum and ensure that it complies with city, state and federal requirements.
Marketing: The knowledge and ability to advertise on social networking sites for child care openings, staff openings, center activities, posting of newsletter and general information for parents. Creativity to draw attention to your ad and to get outside sources interest in our child care center.
Facilities Management: Child Care Center Managers make sure that the center's physical facilities comply with local, state and federal laws and are a safe and appropriate environment for children. Managers have knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding safety requirements and inspection and certification procedures, and ensure that the center complies with those requirements. The center management team also evaluates and purchases equipment and supplies for the center or approves requests to purchase materials and equipment.
Staffing Management: Child care centers are generally staffed with teachers, teacher aides, assistants and other individuals. The Center Manager will work with the Center Director in directly overseeing 60 staff, developing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, maintaining staff development and education and, if necessary, managing disciplinary processes. The Center Manager ensures that all staff meet the requirements for their jobs; for example, the Center Manager orders staff background checks and confirms that necessary licenses are valid. Child Care Center Managers are also responsible for maintaining their own qualifications; most states require Child Care Center Manager to complete continuing education courses each year, in addition to other requirements.
Parental Communication and Involvement: While for many parents, their child's teacher is the primary point of contact in the school, the Center Manager often serves as the 'face' of the school, along side the Director, managing communication with parents and the community. The director communicates the policies to parents. Center Managers also often meet with parents of prospective students to determine whether the school is a good fit for the family.
Financial Responsibilities: Child Care Center Managers are responsible for assisting the Director in the financial management of the center. This means that they oversee the budget and oversee accounts receivable. The Center Manager also helps develop and works with the marketing team to plan for the center, developing public relations and advertising campaigns as necessary.
Prefer previous management and child care experience. Ability to work with 30 staff with different needs and personalities. Must have one of the following:
- AA or BA plus 12 credits in a child related field
- Child Development Associates (CDA)
- Child Development Certificate
- 2 year Early Childhood Education Degree
- BA degree in Early Childhood Education / Development.
