Job Summary
The ATOD Prevention Facilitator co-facilitates parent and / or child groups for ATOD programs which include (but not limited to) Strengthening Families (including SFP 6-11 and SFP 10-14), Guiding Good Choices, and Project Toward No Drug Abuse. The facilitator utilizes evidence based programs that are designed to improve family relationships, reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children. The facilitator evaluates for improved social skills and school performance in children. The facilitator engages participation from both children and parents in designated programs.

  • Facilitate parent and/or child groups for programs under the ATOD program, which includes (and not limited to) Strengthening Families and Guiding Good Choices, and Project Toward No Drug Abuse.
  • Working with families to improve parenting skills and family relationships, reduce problem behaviors, delinquency and alcohol and drug abuse in children.
  • Facilitate drug abuse prevention program designed for teenage students in a high school setting or in the community.
  • Co-facilitate family session to allow the parents and children to practice what they learned in their individual sessions in activities and exercises. This is also a time for the group leaders to coach and encourage family members for improvements in parent/child communication and interactions.
  • Deliver presentations in the community.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic relationship skills including an understanding of boundary issues and confidentiality. Develop therapeutic alliances with children, adolescents and family members; work with clients to resolve the issues of their relationships.
  • Attend to issues of cultural, racial ethnic and gender diversity as they affect the course of treatment.
  • Clinically evaluate/assess clients for the need for change in level of care.
  • Participate in weekly group supervision (one (1) hour per week); this includes preparing agenda, presenting clinical material professionally and respectfully.
  • Identify and escalate issues that might require additional supervisory or administrative attention.
  • Identify and respond to program supervisor’s expectations regarding timeframes, quality and quantity of work. Integrate supervisory input and utilize supervision to develop and assess skills.
  • Understand and adhere to all professional requirements related to confidentiality and client records. Adapt to new agency protocols as new standards emerge.
  • Consult with professionals involved in service to the child, adolescent and family.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills by exhibiting a positive attitude with others, maintaining collaborative relationship with colleagues, taking initiative when needed, and preserving a therapeutic relationship with clients / families.
  • Adhere to program expectations regarding productivity.
  • Understand necessary steps to transition clients to other levels of care.
  • Report to work on time as scheduled; complete work within designated timeframes.

  • Participate in organization-wide performance improvement activities.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain current licensure or certification, if applicable; seek additional training as it pertains to career goals.
  • Participate in competency assessments, reviews, and validations.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor degree in an education, counseling, psychology, social work or related behavioral health field;
  • Ability to address age-specific issues relative to the population served;
  • Ability to clinically address emotional/psychological needs of child/adolescent and family;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Work flexible hours, evening required.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with children.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners and photocopiers.

While performing the duties of this job, the Employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The Employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment. Employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position with varying work hours by day by week based on program needs.

Travel

This position requires some travel to varying locations throughout the county in which the program is held.
