What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Advocate (Bi-Lingual PT) position at CHILD, Inc.?
Summary:
The Domestic Violence (DV) Advocate guides victims through the Protection from Abuse (PFA) process and paperwork, providing information, resources, referrals, safety planning and crisis intervention. The DV Advocate works out of the Family Court in Wilmington, DE. This position uses screening tools to determine eligibility for participation in various programs, to consider level of danger client is in, and for other reasons and communicates with legal services partners on the status of cases and involves direct service staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or Associate degree with two years in human services acceptable.
- Understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and the effects on victims.
- Understanding of confidentiality as it relates to work in the domestic violence field.
- Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, as well as clients who may have a variety of needs, including substance abuse, mental health, and a history of abuse.
- Working hours are during the time the Family Court is open M-F 8:30am-4:30pm for up to 12 hours per week.
- Ability to read, write and speak Spanish required.
