Position Purpose
We are seeking a Head Start Teacher to join our team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of young children and their families. In this role, you will foster the social, emotional, intellectual, language, and physical development of each child in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing educational environment. You will work closely with families to set and achieve long- and short-term goals that support each child's readiness for school success. Additionally, you will ensure that classroom curricula reflect research-based, developmentally appropriate practices that celebrate diversity and promote equity.
This is a 10-month position (August-June) with opportunities to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their communities.
Position Responsibilities
As a Head Start Teacher, your key responsibilities will include:
Classroom Leadership
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, research-based curriculum and activities that support the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of young children.
- Create an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and fosters a sense of belonging for every child.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom, following health and safety guidelines.
Child Development
- Observe, document, and assess children's progress regularly using approved tools, adjusting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
- Foster positive interactions and relationships with children to encourage curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.
- Support children in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Family Engagement
- Build strong relationships with families, encouraging their active participation in their child's learning journey.
- Collaborate with parents to set individual developmental goals for their child and support school readiness.
- Provide families with resources, referrals, and guidance to enhance their involvement in their child's education.
Professional Development and Collaboration
- Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and professional development opportunities to stay current in early childhood education best practices.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, other teachers, and program staff to ensure a coordinated approach to child development and family engagement.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and families, always maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
Program Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and other required documentation.
- Adhere to all Head Start performance standards, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including emergency procedures and nutrition guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
We welcome diverse candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Education:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field, or
- Current National, or Texas based CDA (PreSchool), or
- A minimum of 18 credits in Early Childhood Education/Child Development AND must be willing and able to obtain a CDA within 6 months of hire.
- Positive, motivating, and energetic personality with a passion for working with young children.
- Ability to become certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to pass all criminal history background checks.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are a plus but not required.
