Child Lane provides Early Care and Education, Nutrition, and Family Support Services to the Long Beach and Harbor communities. Founded in 1984, Child Lane has grown from serving a handful of children to serving nearly 6,000 children a day through our Early Care and Education Program and Nutrition Program.

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Family Child Care Network Manager, the Family Child Care Learning Specialist provides learning opportunities to providers and families in Child Lane’s network of licensed family child care homes. Responsibilities of the position include scheduling, coordinating, and facilitating adult learning programs that engage and educate participants. The Specialist is also responsible for completing the annual Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale review and coordinating the bi-annual DRDP assessments and the Ages & Stages screening process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning Opportunities:

  • In collaboration with the Family Child Care Network Manager, analyze and determine needs to identify learning and development priorities.
  • Develop, administer, and implement all training programs by department goals, initiatives, and strategies.
  • Research and schedule opportunities for speakers and presentations for providers and families.
  • Operate independently to lead and manage groups effectively.
  • Consult with community partners to improve learning outcomes.
  • Manage the learning environment for classroom setup, systems setup, course materials, media, and online learning.
  • Generate and distribute monthly newsletter with resources and updates.

Family Child Care Home Assessments:

  • Complete family child care home assessments using the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale.
  • Prepare assessments with supporting documentation and generate reports according to set guidelines and timelines.

Child Assessments and Screenings:

  • Coordinate the children’s observation and assessment process to ensure timely and accurate information is collected, analyzed, and shared with providers and families.
  • Coordinate the Ages and Stages screening process, collaborating with the Child and Family Counselor when necessary.

Network Support:

  • Represent the Family Child Care Network at community outreach events and meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field)
  • Teacher Permit required. Master Teacher Permit preferred
  • Two years of experience teaching young children
  • Experience with DRDPs and Environmental Rating Scales
  • Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Health Clearance, including TB screen and required vaccinations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • High degree of professionalism and accountability
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Valid California Driver’s License and transportation
  • Evening and weekend work required

Physical Requirements:

Must possess mobility to work in child care and office settings and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; strength to lift and carry children or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Travel Requirements:

Local travel is required.
