Classroom Aide Job Description

Position Summary:
The classroom aide is responsible for performing tasks relating to food service, cleaning and childcare. Adherence to sanitation requirements with regard to food service and classroom environment is critical. This role involves collaboration with teaching staff members to provide relief for their breaks, interacting in a developmentally appropriate fashion with children, and establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Food Service:
- Works according to a schedule determined by their manager.
- Assists as needed in food preparation as prescribed by the daily menu.
- Cleans and sanitizes tables before and after food service for assigned classrooms.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be required to substitute in the kitchen in the event of staff absences.
Classroom Support:
- Works in classrooms on an assigned basis to cover breaks for teaching staff and assist with classroom routines.
- Performs set up and cleanup duties in assigned classrooms.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be required to substitute in assigned or other classrooms, in the event of staff absences.
General Responsibilities:
- Ability to take direction and accept flexibility in job expectations.

- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, identify and solve problems, and effectively handle multiple tasks.

- May be required to substitute on the bus in the event of staff absences.
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds on a daily basis.
- Ability to kneel, stoop, bend, twist, push, pull, crawl, sit, and go up and down stairs daily.
- Ability to operate office equipment as applicable.
- Ability to see and hear (with or without assistance).
- Ensures the Head Start Performance Standards and state childcare licensing requirements are followed.
- Abides by Child Start Inc. Standards of Conduct and Policies and Procedures to accomplish agency goals.

Recommended Qualifications, Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred:
- Experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties.
Required:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be in possession of a valid Montana Driver’s License.
- Must complete required health screenings, immunizations, and physical.
- Must pass a comprehensive State and FBI fingerprint background check.
Working Conditions:
Tasks that involve possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Risk involved with travel on national flights, main highways, side streets, and rural roads during business travel, including travel to meetings and training events. Tasks may involve handling implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones and personal contacts. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Ability to successfully perform the job in this manner is required.
