Position Summary:
The Education Assistant is responsible for providing organization, and clerical support, and maintaining communication within the Education Component. Enter data into program database and file required documentation. Maintain the library system. Serve as a substitute in classrooms as needed. Adhere to the Child Start, Inc. Head Start’s Confidentiality Agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clerical and General Functions
- Must be able to accurately enter data from a variety of forms with varying degrees of complexity and troubleshoot data errors and/or discrepancies.
- Review data for errors or potential problems; work with staff members in order to resolve problems or to correct errors.
- Work with Education Managers and administration to ensure accuracy and completeness of data entry.
- Communicate and share Education Component information with teaching staff and component personnel.
- Maintain resources for teaching staff, e.g. home visit packets, screening bags, etc.
- Take minutes at all Education Component meetings and post on the Agency’s Shared drive.
- Plan and implement the Feed-n-Read program activity twice a school year.
Library Functions
- Maintain check-out and check-in system for all library materials.
- Identify needed resources and repair/replace materials when needed.
- Add new items as acquired.
- Maintain resource library inventory.
Volunteer Functions
- Conduct orientation with all new volunteers before classroom placement.
- Plan and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation throughout the school year.
- Schedule community organizations for all Feed-n-Read events.
- Work with community organizations to implement special events throughout the school year.
Classroom Functions
- Serve as a substitute in classrooms as needed.
- Cover breaks for employees in classrooms as needed.
Collaboration
- Maintain a positive working relationship with Education Managers and teaching staff.
- Work collaboratively with all components of Child Start Inc. Head Start to provide comprehensive services for children and families.
- Provide support and feedback to volunteers, substitutes, and parents.
- Collaborate with all staff to support a positive working environment.
- Participate in all required program meetings and training.
- Participate in training as required by STARS, state childcare licensing, and Child Start Inc. Head Start training.
- Complete all tasks in the required period for each.
- Follow Child Start Inc. Head Start’s procedure for any absences.

Recommended Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties.
- Intermediate working computer knowledge and the ability to use a variety of software including Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Ability to take direction and accept flexibility in job expectations.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, problem solve, and effectively handle multiple tasks.
- Physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children for safety purposes.

- Ensures Head Start Performance Standards and state childcare licensing requirements are followed.
- Abides by Child Start Inc. Standards of Conduct and Policies and Procedures to accomplish agency goals.
Required:
- Must be 18 years or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess CDA (Child Development Associate) certification or be willing to obtain it within the first 2 years of employment
- Must be in possession of a valid Montana Driver’s License
- Must complete required health screenings, immunizations, and physical
- Must pass a comprehensive State and FBI fingerprint background check
Working Conditions:
Tasks that involve possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Risk involved with travel on national flights, main highways, side streets, and rural roads during business travel, including travel to meetings and training events. Tasks may involve handling implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones and personal contacts. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. This is a job that is a mixture of desk work, standing for long periods of time, and visits in the community. This job may require you to lift items up to 50 lbs. in weight. Ability to successfully perform the job in this manner is required.
