Position Title: Executive Director (Part-Time, 3/4 Time)

Location: Sonoma County, California

Reports To: Board of Directors

Job Overview:

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive of the organization, leading strategic initiatives and ensuring its growth and sustainability. The ED will oversee fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and the overall strategic direction of the organization. This role works closely with the Board of Directors, donors, and community partners, while maintaining an efficient and effective administrative structure in partnership with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising:
    • Lead and implement the organization’s fundraising strategy, including grants, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and annual campaigns.
    • Build and sustain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
    • Develop and manage fundraising events, campaigns, and other revenue-generating activities.
    • Set financial goals for fundraising and ensure accountability to achieve them.
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Provide vision and leadership for the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Work with the Board to set short and long-term strategic goals, reviewing progress periodically.
    • Develop programs and initiatives to expand the impact of the organization.
  • Board Relations:
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff.
    • Work with the Board to develop and implement organizational policies, funding strategies, and governance best practices.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management
    • Works closely with the Board of Directors to create annual budget
    • Meet income goals
    • Meet expense guidelines
  • External Relations:
    • Represent the organization publicly and advocate for its mission and initiatives.
    • Engage with the local community, media, and stakeholders to promote the organization and its mission.
      • Membership to local Rotary Club is sponsored by the agency.
  • Staff and Operations Oversight:
    • Work in close partnership with the CAO, who will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization.
    • Provide oversight for a small staff, ensuring alignment with the strategic vision.
    • Maintain financial stability by managing budgetary needs in collaboration with the CAO.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience as an Executive Director, or Fund Development Professional with proven track record of success.
  • Strong background in fundraising, donor relations, and financial management.
  • Leadership experience with small staff teams.
  • Belief in sharing success through collaborative planning
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
  • High level of personal integrity, with a commitment to the mission of the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or work experience which supports ability to succeed in this role

 

Hours and Schedule:

  • 3/4-time commitment (approximately 30 hours per week).
  • Flexible schedule with occasional evening and/ weekend work required for fundraising, community outreach, events and board meetings.

 

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary based on experience (Range $80,000 - $90,000)
  • Benefits for employee include medical and dental plans covered by the organization.

The Executive Director (ED) works in tandem with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). These are equal roles with separate responsibilities both reporting to the Board of Directors.

The ED focuses primarily on external-facing duties such as fundraising, donor relations, and strategic direction, while the CAO handles internal operations. This division of labor allows the organization to operate smoothly while maximizing the ED’s ability to focus on fund development and community outreach.
