Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation

Status: Hourly - Salary Range: $17 to $20 per hour

Reports to: CEO

 

Mission

The mission of the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation is Preventing Drowning, One Child at a Time. The Foundation conducts water safety skill and stroke technique lessons through its Big Kahuna Swim Academy program. The Foundation is a new and growing nonprofit that requires good leaders to support its continued growth and expansion in meeting its mission. The Foundation has a teamwork culture and believes in developing and rewarding its employees. As such, the Foundation’s pay scales are above average and include bonus programs for all staff. Big Kahuna Swim Academy was founded in 2015 by Tenaya Goldsmith and is the official swim program of the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation. Our mission is to prevent drowning – one child at a time.

BKSA Swim Instructor / Drowning Prevention Specialist Benefits

  • Set Schedule – This position can be part-time or full-time (Full-time is 32 or more hours per week). You will have a regular work schedule.

Swim Instructor / Drowning Prevention Specialist

Swim Instructors may report to Shift Supervisors and/or Managers. The Swim Instructor’s primary job responsibility is to provide excellent instruction of the 8 Basic Water Safety Skills to students, providing the highest quality customer experience in such a way as to ensure the most expedient student learning of the 8 basic water safety skills and consistency of service, ultimately resulting in customer retention. Swim Instructors are expected to embody the mission of the Foundation and to provide exceptional customer service. Swim Instructors are expected to continually receive feedback and learn to continually elevate their teaching skills. Swim Instructors may be trained in stroke technique to accommodate students who graduate their water safety tests and would like to continue on to learn stroke technique. Swim Instructors are expected to commit to a consistent schedule for six-plus months at a time are expected to understand the importance and demonstrate good attendance and consistency of instruction to ensure customer retention and quality of customer experience. Swim Instructors are expected to participate in monthly team meetings and trainings, communicate with team members and organizational leaders through a number of modalities including Slack. Swim Instructors track their own time and are expected to enter their time accurately, including breaks, into the Foundation’s time tracking software. Swim Instructors are also expected to keep detailed notes on each student as well as to debrief their supervisor or manager daily on student progress, successes, and challenges always ensuring a swift resolution to problems and seeking input and feedback on their performance as an instructor. Swim Instructors are expected to embody the mission and values of the Foundation.

 

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities of the swim instructor / drowning prevention specialist include:

  • Provide high-quality instruction to students on the 8 Basic Water Safety Skills & Stroke Technique
  • Seek and accept continual feedback and demonstrate continual improvement in instruction technique
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress, successes and challenges
  • Provide a high level of customer service with excellent service, empathy, enthusiasm, compassion, pride and attention to detail
  • Debrief with supervisor/manager each day, seeking a swift resolution to challenges
  • Ensure consistency in one’s own attendance and commit to a consistent schedule for six-plus months at a time, ensuring customer retention
  • Fills in where needed to fill gaps in schedules
  • Responds swiftly to management requests and communications
  • Demonstrates a teamwork attitude, jumps in where needed, and goes the extra mile
  • Embodies the Values of the CDPF utilizes them as a basis for coaching
  • Communicates with team members and leadership via a number of modalities including Slack, and ensures vital information is passing to the right people in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • 1 years successful swim instruction with a record of continual student advancement (preferred)
  • Bilingual (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the 8 Basic Water Safety Skills and stroke technique instruction as well as the ability to coach instructors on these skills (preferred)
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach children, special needs students & adults
  • Customer service experience / excellent customer service skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to achieve desired results including taking responsibility for consistency in customer experience and high-quality instruction
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow through
  • Track record of service above self
  • Demonstrates good judgment
  • Ability to evaluate a problem and resolve it expediently
  • Ability to learn new technology like the Slack app
  • Excellent verbal skills, with the ability to get creative where appropriate
  • Honestly and integrity
