What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's House Support Assistant position at Childpeace Montessori School?
Childpeace Montessori School is seeking a Children’s House Support Assistant to work in our Children’s House (3- to 6-year-olds) program. This individual will support 2 Children’s House Classrooms by providing individual student support, material making, helping with naps and recess. The position is a hourly and non-exempt, school year position with opportunities to work the summers.
The Children's House Support Assistant assists in implementing a Montessori approach to learning, preparing the environment for the children, and supporting the safety and relationships of children.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
These positions are ideal for entry-level child care professionals, students, or individuals interested in Early Childhood Education, Montessori Education, Human Development, Psychology, and/or are currently working on an undergraduate degree or an AMI diploma.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Guide as directed to protect the children’s engagement in purposeful activities and support the child’s independence.
- Assists in implementing a Montessori approach to learning.
- Supports the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of each child as directed by the Guide.
- Regards each child without prejudice or favoritism.
- Maintains confidentiality of each child and family.
- Shares objective observations of the children, both oral and written, with the Guide.
- Assists with special needs children as requested by the Guides in alignment with Montessori principles and/or recommendations from the School Psychologist or other service providers. (e.g. support for behavior and emotional regulation, a non-distracting environment, coaching with Montessori materials).
- Works with small and large groups as requested by the Guides (e.g. reading books, singing, story telling, games).
- Supports CH lunch time with procedures established by the Guide.
- Assists CH staff to supervise crossing to/from play spaces and to lead a safe and engaging play time.
- Supports CH nap/rest time with procedures that support their independence and comfort.
All individuals must register with Oregon Department of Education Early Learning Division, Central Background Registry prior to hire.
