  • Position Summary :
  • Children's Aid is a national leader in the field of child social services, providing solutions to ensure young people who live in poverty have the tools they need to learn, grow, and become the leaders of their own lives. Our efforts have become ever more crucial, as NYC's families face overlapping challenges, post-pandemic. We seek a dedicated grant writer to join the Institutional Giving team and ensure the agency has the resources it needs to meet a heightened demand for services.

The primary responsibility of this position is to manage donor and prospect relationships by creating compelling, outcomes-driven, and client-ready letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other correspondence for a diverse audience of foundation and other funders. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and communicator and possess strong organizational and planning skills. This position will report to the Associate Director of Institutional Giving. This is an opportunity to serve as a member of an ambitious department, grow fundraising skills by working with sophisticated funding audiences, and make a difference in the lives of children and youth.

This position has a hybrid work schedule. The salary range is $65,000-$75,000.

  • Essential Duties
  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures
  • Grant Writing and Portfolio Management (70%)
  • Manage a portfolio of $1.5 million by developing, writing, and assembling proposals and reports to corporations and foundations, representing a diverse set of over 20 programs. Use excellent discretion and independent judgment in presenting program content and outcomes
  • Drive stewardship with funders through customized communication as well as the distribution of publications including annual reports, newsletters, and event invitations
  • Own the moves management process for each funder in portfolio, ensuring timely communications and key actions / notes are completed and tracked in donor files and Raiser's Edge
  • Monitor compliance with grant deliverables and outcomes
  • Work closely with program and fiscal teams to generate narrative content and project budgets
  • Conduct research on program topic areas / target populations and integrate findings, including statistics, into work product.
  • Coordinate prep and follow-up for donor site visits and meetings
  • Prospecting (20%)
  • Meet annual prospecting goals through prospect research that uncovers the potential for $100,000 in new support each year
  • Coordinate with colleague(s) in proactively identifying cultivation opportunities among funders in respective portfolios and analyzing prospects
  • In partnership with supervisor, craft thoughtful engagement and cultivation strategies and activate on next steps
  • Special Projects (10%)
  • Assist with implementing new systems and tools to improve department efficiency and effectiveness
  • Drive memo development to support executive strategy meetings and required follow up
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Institutional Giving, the Associate Director of Institutional Giving, or the Chief Development Officer
  • Minimum Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree; in lieu of degree or a high school diploma or equivalency and three years of grant writing or persuasive writing experience required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

  • Detail and deadline oriented, with an ability to work well under pressure
  • Previous experience with CRM databases, such as Raiser's Edge, preferred
