Position Description : JOB SUMMARY :

Counselors supervise the delivery of specific services and are responsible for maintaining collaborative staff, volunteer and community relationships. The Counselor ensures that direct service delivery is in conformity with CBC-RGV policies, procedures, and requirements (and with contractual and stakeholder requirements when present) and the coordination of accurate collection of client and service activity data. Specific services include direct service to clients by conducting intakes, counseling, peer support groups and supervision of interns and volunteers. He / she will be responsible for coordinating program volunteers and / or interns for quality service delivery of peer support groups and counseling services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :

1.Reports to : Counseling Supervisor

2.Supervises : Volunteer program and student interns

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :

A. Direct Services

1.Conducts phone intakes and schedules initial appointments for clients

2.Performs initial assessments for clients and families and assigns individuals to the appropriate service or referral

3.Provides individual, couples and family counseling

4.Coordinates peer support groups and facilitates peer support groups

5.Monitors families in assigned peer support groups and assists with crisis intervention

6.Coordinates the program curriculum and manages the logistics / working structure of support groups

B. Administration

1.Establishes goals and objectives that are in accordance with the organizations mission, policies and strategic plan

2.Assists in preparing therapeutic interventions for counseling and curriculum for peer support groups

3.Maintains appropriate documentation of client files

4.Updates supervisor with progress of clients, students, and program volunteers

5.Prepares schedules for program volunteers and student interns

6.Maintains appropriate documentation of volunteer and intern files and service hours

7.Attends all staff and program meetings

C. Collaboration

1.Partners with supervisor and other staff to assist with recruitment of program volunteers

2.Supports organizational development efforts by assist with fundraising and special events, as needed

3.Maintains open communication and collaboration with all staff members and departments

4.Presents informative presentations and attends community awareness events to educate the public on relevant topics, promote organizational services, and foster community engagement, as needed.

D. Compliance

1.Ensures compliance with all HIPPA Privacy and Security Regulations

2.Ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws

E. Ability to :

1.Present ideas, factual information and data in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing to professional and lay persons and groups.

2.Establish and maintain positive working relationships.

3.Prioritize workload, manage time, and meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.

4.Conduct interviews and facilitate group processes.

5.Interact professionally with public and stakeholders

6.Develop and enhance collaborative relationships

7.Complete administrative tasks correctly and on time

QUALIFICATIONS :

To perform this job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential performance requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the training, experience, knowledge, and skill required for this job. Education / Training and Experience :

1.Licensed Doctoral or masters degree in counseling, Social Work or related field

2.2 -3 years of post Masters experience in related field

3.Experience in grief, loss and trauma for children and adults

4.Experience in working with diverse and multicultural populations

5.Strong organizational skills, time management skills and adept at multi-tasking

6.Strong verbal and writing communication skills including public speaking

7.Excellent people skills such as, leadership, teamwork and customer service

8.Proficient use of computers, internet, social media, Microsoft Office suite of programs, and multi-line phone system

9.Preferred Fluent in Spanish

10.Physical Requirements include occasional lifting / carrying twenty pounds, such as copy paper, office supplies, program supplies; ability to move freely and comfortably around the therapy room, which may involve sitting on the floor, kneeling, or bending to interact with children at their level, ability to observe and interpret non-verbal cues and play behaviors, and to hear and respond to client's verbal communications.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :

1.All prospective employees are required to provide a minimum of three professional references.

2.All prospective employees are subject to a criminal background check.

3.All prospective employees are required to present a copy of a degree certificate(s) and / or proof of licensure(s).

4.All prospective employees must present a State of Texas vehicle operators license and proof of liability insurance.

POST-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :

1.Current employees are subject to an annual criminal background check. Continued employment is conditioned upon satisfactory results of the background check.

2.Current employees may be subject to interim and random testing for the presence of illegal and controlled substances in the event of a work-related injury. Continued employment is conditioned upon satisfactory results of the illegal and controlled substance test.

TIMES WORK WILL BE PERFORMED :

The CBC-RGVs hours of operation are extended and non-traditional and may vary based on job requirements. Employees are scheduled in a manner that is best suited to the delivery of client services. Exempt employees are paid on a salaried basis and are not entitled to overtime pay. The amount of the salary is intended to compensate the employee for all hours worked to perform the required job.
