Position Overview :

Children’s Day Preschool (CDP) seeks a visionary and strategic Executive Director to build on CDP’s 135-year legacy of providing outstanding care and early education to young children, supporting families, and creating an environment for all employees to thrive. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership of Children’s Day Preschool and carrying out the mission, vision, philosophy and strategic plan of our organization.

As our Executive Director, you will be responsible for the implementation of our programs and services, financial management, mentoring of staff, coordination and collaboration with our small and highly effective Leadership Team, overseeing CDP’s communications including digital and social media marketing and fund development, and representing the organization in networks and communications; ensuring that all align with CDP’s mission and vision. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities & Essential Duties :

Strategic and Programmatic Leadership

  • Collaborate with Board and CDP leadership to update and implement CDP’s strategic plan as well as short-term and long-term goals.
  • Provide leadership, inspiration, and vision to all employees, consultants, volunteers, board members, community partners, foundations, and donors.
  • In collaboration with the Leadership Team, (Director, Education Supervisor, Social Service Manager, and the Staff Accountant), design, develop, implement, and evaluate organizational priorities and programs to ensure we are meeting our strategic plan goals, aligning with the mission.
  • Foster an inclusive, mission-driven organizational culture and a values-driven environment, leading with a strengths-based approach to management and a strong commitment to ensuring an equitable, inclusive, culturally competent, and trauma informed / healing-centered services and staff environment.
  • Manage, lead, and collectively empower team members at all levels of the organization; demonstrate a collaborative model in partnership with the Leadership Team.

Operational Leadership

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence by providing broad supervision of all departments. Meet regularly with the Leadership Team to receive and review reports and make recommendations as needed.
  • Lead and direct organization’s staff meetings. Effectively communicate organizational and industry information to all employees and Board of Directors.
  • Manage human resources with the Director and Staff Accountant. Lead the process of identifying staffing needs; searching for qualified candidates, and making hiring decisions.
  • Onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development for all employees is carried out according to policy and best practices.

  • Maintain and update all policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Along with the Director, gather, interpret, and deliver program data and information to board members, managers, and employees.
  • Engage and maintain a strong Board of Directors. Support the Board of Directors in carrying out its responsibilities to govern the organization.
  • Report on a regular basis to the Board Chair regarding the state of the organization; organize and support Board Committees.
  • Relationships and Communications

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization to stakeholders, media, and the general public in ways that strengthen and effectively communicate the organization’s mission.
  • Advocate for and bolster the organization’s foundational principles, policies, and dedication to the implementation of high-quality early care and education. Manage community relations and strategic partnerships as well as all social media, public relations, and marketing for the organization to maintain CDP’s image and brand in the community.
  • Research, write, and edit documents and communications on behalf of the organization.
  • Oversee maintenance of agency website and coordinate agency’s Digital Media Marketing Plan. Identify new opportunities as well as maintain partnerships with foundations, donors, thought leaders, and key community and business partners.
  • Fiscal Management, Funding and Revenue Generation

  • Ensure the financial viability of the organization.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Fund Development to achieve revenue goals.
  • Monitor operations and ensure business practices comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Required Skills & Competencies :

  • Required Education and Experience :

  • Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Education, or Human Services (or related degree title) preferred; Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience will be considered
  • Minimum 5-7 Years Supervisory Experience in a nonprofit setting preferred; direct work experience in one or more relevant area (early childhood education, mental health, or social services); equivalent combination of education and / or relevant experience considered
  • Bilingual Spanish / English is a plus, but not required
