Job posting: Teacher Assistant (TA)
Position Type: Full Time AND Part Time:: for FT positions- Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts (shifts start between 7am-9am) :: for PT position- Monday-Friday, shifts vary, offering both AM shifts and afternoon shifts
Location: Providence, RI, Pawtucket, RI, Central Falls, RI (please note: you may be placed at any of our sites that have openings or be expected to float to other sites)
Reports To: Child Development Supervisor.
Position Overview:
The Teacher Assistant (TA) will collaborate with the lead teacher to support and implement a high-quality curriculum that aligns with best practice performance standards, Department of Child, Youth, and Families (DCYF) regulations, and Head Start/Pre-K guidelines. This role focuses on fostering the emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of young children while maintaining a nurturing and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities.
- Ensure compliance with DCYF childcare regulations, Head Start performance standards, and Pre-K guidelines.
- Monitor and document daily observations regarding children's health, behavior, and development, reporting any concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate progress notes and collect necessary data to track each child’s emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development.
- Work with staff to meet the individual needs of children, ensuring consistent communication about progress and support strategies.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff, demonstrating sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Collaborate with the Mentor-Coaching Team to implement strategies that promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
- Participate in four parent-teacher conferences annually, with a preference for two home visits and two on-site meetings.
Qualifications:
We offer tiered levels of Teacher Assistant positions based on experience and education:
- TA1: High School Diploma or equivalent. Starting at $15.20/hr.
- TA2: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential. Starting at $15.70/hr.
- TA3: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Child Study, Child Psychology, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, or Nursing). Starting at $16.46/hr.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong ability to organize and plan activities that encourage developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children.
- Demonstrated ability to establish warm, supportive, and nurturing relationships with young children and families.
- Basic computer proficiency is required for data entry, email communication, and record-keeping.
