Job posting: Billing Manager
Position Type: Full Time - Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts
Location: Providence, RI- In Office. This position requires an onsite presence.
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Position Overview:
The Billing Manager oversees the organization's fee-for-service billing, credentialing, and revenue functions, ensuring timely filing, reporting, account management, and proper revenue recognition. The Billing Manager works closely with internal departments and external partners to support financial sustainability and operational efficiency. This role will manage a team of billing specialists who are focused on third-party billing operations, while staying compliant with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, train, and motivate the billing team by setting goals and deadlines that comply with the agency’s direction and vision.
- Meet with the billing team regularly to identify problematic claims, address roadblocks, and provide recommendations for the best course of action.
- Ensure timely filing requirements are met with each insurance company.
- Monitor the A/R report monthly, investigate and help resolve outstanding issues.
- Assist in the resolution of billing issues by demonstrating a strong understanding of the contractual billing arrangements, and perform the necessary research with the available resources.
- Work closely with the Chief of Programs and Program Management to recognize and work to resolve systemic issues.
- Develop processes and priorities to improve the revenue cycle and maximize revenue.
- Collaborate with other departments: a) Provide the appropriate financial information to the program Managers/Supervisors b) Establish and maintain relationships with the providers to support successful billing.
- Prepare and present billing reports to senior management.
- Maintain proper documentation of billing records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Credentialing and Recredentialing: a) Responsible for the process of verifying and maintaining providers’ credentials to ensure they are qualified to bill insurance companies b) Prepare and submit provider applications to insurance companies, with the supporting documentation c) Contact insurance companies to follow-up on application status, address any credentialing issues, and resolve any discrepancies d) Provide support and guidance to new providers joining the agency to ensure they have all aspects of credentialing completed before services are performed.
- Accurately document interactions with the appropriate insurance companies, and complete all required documentation within their deadlines.
- Ensure the accurate and timely recording of billing, adjustments, cash receipts, and credit memos in the General Ledger System.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, or relevant work experience required
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in billing, accounts receivable, or financial management, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Experience in CPT and ICD-10 coding
