The Academic Dean is responsible for overseeing the academic programming and development of students in a non-public school setting. This includes promoting a positive school culture, ensuring rigorous instruction, and classroom engagement, and the design and development of a comprehension academic program. The Dean will work closely with staff, parents, and students to uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all learners. This position currently reports to the Director of Schools.

About the role!
The Academic Dean is responsible for overseeing the academic programming and development of students in a non-public school setting. The Dean will work closely with staff, parents, and students to uphold the school’s mission, vision, and values while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all learners. This position currently reports to the Director of Schools.
As an Academic Dean, you will provide:
Academic Leadership:
- Curriculum Development & Implementation: Oversee the development, review, and implementation of the school’s curriculum to ensure it aligns with educational standards, school philosophy, and student needs.
- Instructional Supervision: Provide support and guidance to mentor teachers regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment methods.
- Professional Development: Organize and facilitate ongoing professional development opportunities for faculty to enhance their teaching skills and keep current with best practices and new educational research.
- Hiring and Recruitment: Assist in the hiring process for teaching and academic staff, ensuring that faculty members are qualified and align with the school’s mission.
- Evaluation and Feedback: Conduct regular performance evaluations of faculty, providing constructive feedback and guidance on areas for improvement.
- Mentorship and Support: Provide mentorship and guidance to both new and experienced faculty, fostering a collaborative and supportive teaching environment.
- Conflict Resolution: Address any interpersonal or academic conflicts among staff and work to resolve issues fairly and professionally.
- Student Assessment: Oversee the assessment of student performance, including grading policies, standardized tests, and individual assessments.
- Student Progress Monitoring: Work with teachers to track student progress and intervene when necessary to provide academic support for struggling students.
- Academic Counseling: Provide academic counseling to students, including course selection, study strategies, and addressing any academic concerns.
- Special Needs Support: Ensure all students receive appropriate accommodation and support to succeed academically.
- Scheduling: Oversee and manage the creation of the academic schedule, ensuring that it meets the needs of students and staff while adhering to school policies.
- Policy Development & Compliance: Ensure that academic policies are developed, updated, and enforced in line with legal requirements and school values.
- Budgeting: Assist with the academic budget, ensuring the appropriate allocation of resources for educational materials, technology, and staff development.
- Parental Engagement: Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding academic progress, school events, and any issues affecting students' academic performance.
- School Leadership Team: Collaborate with the head of school and leadership teams, in strategic planning, decision-making, and overall school operations.
- External Relationships: Represent the school at academic conferences, professional development events, and community activities that promote the school's mission and academic programs.
- Mission Implementation: Ensure that the school’s academic programs, curriculum, and policies align with its overall mission, values, and educational philosophy.
- Innovative Practices: Stay up to date with educational trends and incorporate innovative practices into the academic program to maintain a high standard of education.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Collect and analyze data on student performance, teacher effectiveness, and curriculum outcomes to inform decisions and improvements.
- Reporting: Provide reports to the school’s leadership regarding academic performance, teacher development, and any academic challenges facing the school.
- Accreditation Maintenance: Ensure that the school remains in compliance with any accreditation requirements and prepares necessary documentation for accreditation evaluations.
- Educational Standards: Ensure that the school is meeting or exceeding state and national academic standards.
- Crisis Response: Handle academic-related crises, such as student behavioral issues or classroom disruptions, with a focus on resolution and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Problem-Solving: Be proactive in identifying potential academic challenges and work collaboratively with staff to address them.
- Passion for the CHC mission and diversity, equity and inclusion, and commitment to ensure that EBC views all of its work through a DEIB lens
- Strategic thinking skills to work with the Director of EBC Schools to ensure programmatic decisions align with best practices
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

- Strong knowledge of educational policies and best practices in student management and development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive student issues with empathy and confidentiality.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide both students and staff.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with academic and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Proficiency in technology tools used for student management and communication.
- Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Clear Educational Specialist Credential.
- Single Subject/Multiple Subject Credential preferred.
- At least five years’ experience working with students with therapeutic and behavioral needs within the school setting.
- Continued professional development on an annual basis is expected.
Physical Requirements:
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- It will be necessary for the Assistant Director to occasionally attend after-school or agency-wide events that take place after regular school hours. The Academic Dean is expected to attend such events as they are scheduled.
- 220 days calendar of days to be determined by the employee and supervisor.
- This is an on-site position.
- Extensive interpersonal interaction with peers and outside contacts.
Range: $100,000-$135,000 per year
Pay Type: salary
- The starting base salary for this position is as shown above. The actual base salary is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
