Job Summary:
The purpose of the recreational therapist / activities’ coordinator is to spend one-on-one time with identified patients to support the development, play skills and social expression of the children. Accordingly, this is accomplished through the provision of one on one, group programing, and joint therapy session experience to assist the patient in developing appropriate skills and abilities.
Responsibilities:
- To organize daily activities between two pediatric day health facilities
- To assess, plan, initiate, and evaluate activities with clear therapeutic goals and outcomes
- Leads and conducts diversified recreation activities such as arts and crafts, organized games, and pet therapy.
- To facilitate appropriate individualized sessions for patients to strengthen their developmental abilities, fine motor, gross motor and cognitive skills.
- Provides feedback or input of child’s responses to activity, observations about his/her physical and emotional behavior to Recreation Therapy Director.
- To maintain, clean up, and sterilize the playrooms when finished with activities.
- To manage activity documentations such as assessments, quarterlies, progress notes, discharge summaries
- Establish and sustain working relationships with staff members and a variety of internal and external working groups and individuals.
Tasks:
- Facilitate daily group and individualized programing
- Work with families, nursing staff, and recreational therapy team to organize field trips
- Provide developmentally appropriate play to individual children
- Take children outside for gross motor skill development/activities, weather permitting.
- Plan daily and monthly activity calendars and special events
- Co-plan with recreational therapy team for company-wide events
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Formal Education/Training:
- Bachelors and certification in Recreational Therapy preferred
- High School Education/GED
Job Related Experience:
- A minimum of one-year experience working with children in a day care, health care or school setting. Experience working with medically fragile individuals.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds comfortably and physically interact with children.
- Ability to incorporate recommendations from therapy, nursing and activities into play activities for the children.
- Ability to identify areas of need and provide individual activities for child.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to assess and meaningfully interact with infants, children, youth and families.
- Computer literate (Microsoft office).
- Demonstrates effective leadership and able to take initiative.
- Problem-solving, listening and communications skills.
- Able to work independently after given direction.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds comfortably.
- Ability to incorporate recommendations from IDT into play activities for the child.
- Ability to identify areas of need and provide individual activities for child.
Salary : $25 - $30
