Summary :
Assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath / EP Lab specializing in the care of patients undergoing diagnostic Cardiac Cath, PTCA, stent placement, Impella placement and EP devices and ablations. With increased experience provides resource and mentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhanced technical skills.
Responsibilities :
Functions as a member of the sterile team during the operative / cardiac cath procedure. Assembles appropriate supplies and equipment for surgical procedures. Assists surgeons and or cardiologist by closely observing their actions and anticipating their needs, handing sterile instruments, sponges, sutures, and other items as necessary. Assist during invasive and noninvasive procedures to diagnose and / or treat congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmiasResponsible for ensuring that all pre-operative planning and preparation for intervention are individualized to meet the needs of each patient based on the cardiologist / surgeon's preference. Collects data and determines needs from schedules and consultations with team members. Consults preference list and incorporates into preparation of surgical suite.Room preparation and breakdown to include stocking rooms, daily QC checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, and room cleanup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type. Performs patient care tasks including documentation within electronic health record.Performs in all roles within the cardiac catheterization lab. Performs POC testing as directed by the physician. Administers medications to the sterile field as directed by the physician.Ensures the preparation of a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Follows universal precautions. Adheres to aseptic practices. Verifies exposure to sterilization process, integrity of sterile packaging, moisture, and that all items used are on the sterile field. Establishes and maintains the sterile field. Identifies and reports potential hazards in the surgical suite's environment. Wears surgical attire correctly inside and outside the surgical suite.Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, gloves).Utilizes standards to maintain departmental practices and procedures. Participates in committees and project / task forces. Follows policies and recommended practices pertaining to the use, care and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Maintains surgeon's preference list. Maintains specialty instrument sets and costly equipment.Promotes positive communication and collaboration throughout the department. Seeks and shares pertinent information. Communicates accurately and effectively with healthcare professional, co-workers, and management. Uses appropriate techniques to avoid defensive responses, utilizes conflict management skills as necessary. Anticipates problems and makes recommendations to appropriate personnel.Demonstrates accountability in performing role / development expectations. Identifies what needs to be done and assumes responsibility for accomplishing it. Remains flexible and adaptable to change. Performs multifaceted tasks on a daily basis. Organizes work and establishes priorities. Accepts responsibility for own development needs; seeks resources. At least 1 year surgical technology experience PrefSuccessful completion of a formal program in Surgical Technology ReqEDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent ReqFour-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience PrefTwo-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience ReqA degree in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing) PrefLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
