Position Summary
Our Emergency Preparedness Specialist must have a solid understanding of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and planning regarding Emergency Preparedness. In partnership with the Emergency Preparedness Manager, serves as a liaison for Children's Health System of Texas (CHST) entities with all local, regional, and state agencies. Responsible for monitoring, implementation, and measurement of the effectiveness of the Emergency Preparedness Program and acts as a resource to all hospital departments. This includes proactively identifying vulnerabilities, assisting in the maintenance of the emergency response plans (ERP), delivering education, and assisting with facilitation of exercises to ensure ongoing readiness. The Emergency Preparedness Specialist also provides operational support and facilitation expertise in all phases of emergencies related to mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Responsibilities
- Responds to planned and unplanned campus specific or system events affecting normal operations. Collaborates with internal and external partners on mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies based on event outcomes.
- Partners with business continuity specialists, subject matter experts, both clinical and non-clinical throughout the CHST system, to development and facilitate emergency preparedness drills and disaster exercises both internal and external to the individual hospital campuses.
- Maintains emergency preparedness resources and assets, i.e., technologies, personal protective and response equipment, ensuring they are inventoried and ready to be operationalized.
- Ensures operational and survey readiness by supporting planning activities pertaining to the emergency preparedness portfolio.
- Required: At least 2 years’ experience in Emergency Preparedness or public safety/health
- Required: Four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Required: Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP); 3 years from hire date
