What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preauthorization Coordinator position at CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA CARDIOLOGY?
Children’s Cardiology, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is comprised of more than 60 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Preauthorization Coordinator is responsible for obtaining authorization and pre-certifications for outpatient, inpatient, and ancillary services. This position is critical to securing financial reimbursement for all services requiring preauthorization.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associates degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of healthcare billing experience; emphasis on pre authorizations.
- Experience and understanding of medical terminology including billing and coding preferred.
- Epic experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of registration fundamentals, medical billing software systems, and payer portal websites.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and adapt to fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and follow-through discipline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Verify insurance eligibility, obtain insurance benefits, and ensuring pre-certification, authorization, and referral requirements are met prior to the delivery of inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary services.
- Responsible for obtaining the necessary authorizations via phone, fax, or payer portal websites; document the appropriate information in patient’s record in a timely manner.
- Review and accurately process all assigned preauthorization orders to completion and maintain daily workflow.
- Maintain established productivity standards and meet goals within in a fast-paced environment.
- Support and resolve any inconsistencies in the preauthorization process; actively participate in problem identification and coordinate resolution between appropriate parties.
- Communicate any insurance eligibility concerns or changes with other departments.
- Provide helpful and effective customer service by providing appropriate information to patients, providers, and third-party vendors.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
