Experience
- Must be a graduate of a predoctoral dental program in US or Canada
- N/A
- Must have US or Canadian dental degree (DMD or DDS) accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- PALS
- BLS
- Must pass National Board Dental Examination (NDBE) Parts 1 and 2 or the Integrated Dental Board Examination (IDBE)

- The resident is authorized to provide patient care under the supervision of an Active member of Children’s Professional Staff.
- The resident has the following prerogatives: Perform those clinical duties consistent with the privileges held by the Professional Staff member responsible for the patient’s care and to whom he/she is assigned.
- Attend hospital inpatients patients for consultation under supervision of Professional Staff member(s) to whom he/she has been assigned.
- Attend Children’s educational programs, meetings of the assigned service and other assigned meetings of the staff.
- Attend to patients in the emergency department(s) where pediatric dentistry service has been consulted.
- The resident has the following responsibilities: Maintain responsibility, within the scope of current professional competence, for the care and supervision of assigned patients.
- Delivers competent patient care, integrating infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development to patients from newborns to 21 years of age.
- Demonstrates and practices family centered care: Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family. Communicates relevant information at the patient's and family's level of understanding. Identifies patient/family needs for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
- Provide the patients with care at the generally recognized professional level of quality and efficiency established for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
- Write orders for treatment or implement the plan of treatment under the direction of the Professional Staff member responsible for the child’s care.
- Abide by the policies and procedures of Children’s and the Rules and Regulations of the Professional Staff.
- Abide by the ethical principles of his/her profession.
- Participate in the quality management/improvement activities of Children’s.
- Other functions as appropriate and assigned by the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program Director.
- While the attending/supervising physician maintains responsibility for all activities performed by the resident, each pediatric dentistry resident may independently perform the following procedures and evaluations without an attending physician present:
- Provides appropriate documentation in the medical record including progress notes, consultation reports, and orders.
- Dictates or make appropriate medical record entries in a timely manner as outlined by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
- Examination, radiographic evaluation and assessment, appropriate urgent treatment to patients where assistance was requested by Children’s emergency department(s).
- Communicates effectively with patients and their families.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team (including social workers; nutritionists; attending physicians; respiratory therapists; nurses; colleagues; and others).
