Job Description

The Vice President, Physician Practice Operations is responsible for leadership and direction for Hughes Spalding Hospital.

Reporting to Children's Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President provides direction to the clinical and administrative leadership team and collaborates with the Medical Director, Hughes Spalding Hospital, to ensure effectiveness of all operations within the hospital.

The Vice President works collaboratively with Children's leadership to develop and execute a growth strategy to position Hughes Spalding Hospital for increased patient care capacity.

The Vice President also proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Hughes Spalding Hospital.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, direct, and coordinate the operation of an acute care thirty-bed pediatric hospital with over 95,000 outpatient visits.
  • Provide leadership to ensure attainment of strategic goals and objectives as well as deliver quality patient care including performance improvement initiatives, oversight of quality monitors, employee safety, and innovations in patient care.
  • Direct short- and long-range planning, development of goals, objectives, and business plans with a focus on ensuring the hospital delivers services that are financially sound and produce quality outcomes.
  • Continually monitor market intelligence, critical success factors, and outcomes.
  • Promotes multi-disciplinary collaborative practices.
  • Ensure adequate facility and people resource allocation to deliver safe and effective patient care.
  • Build and strengthen hospital reputation through active community involvement.
  • Implement and evaluate programs to promote the recruitment, retention, professional development, and continuing education of all members of the hospital (management, staff, and ancillary support).
  • Lead customer service for the entire facility, which includes patient / family satisfaction, staff satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and facility cleanliness / appearances.
  • Drive staff engagement and retention across Hughes Spalding Hospital.
  • Build sustainable working relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Ensure operations and operational decisions adhere to the Grady Management contract.
  • Develop and grow community relationships with key civic and donor groups.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following credentials :

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in an administration leadership or management capacity with oversight for multi-specialty clinical and facility operations.
  • At least five years of administrative leadership experience in a hospital setting. Prior pediatric leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience leading the development and execution of a strategic growth plan.
  • Experience leading delivering clinical care and operational performance under an executive management contract.
  • Experience developing and managing sitewide operational and capital budgets.
  • Experience interacting with an active donor community.
  • Proven leadership experience in an urban hospital setting.
  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, finance, or a clinical specialty is required.
  • Master's degree or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience in assessing and improving clinical operations including quality, services, finances, and staff safety.
  • Proven ability to negotiate provider coverage, clinical support, regulatory transactions, and facility support with multiple healthcare systems.
  • Strong influencing skills. Adept at getting mission-oriented results through others without direct authority over them.
  • Familiarity with behavioral and mental health needs in a healthcare setting.
  • Team builder and leadership developer with the proven ability to attract, develop, motivate, retain, and lead a high-performing team of professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change to align with the strategy to improve performance.
  • Understands industry best practices and utilizes this knowledge to benchmark and drive performance.
  • Understands the importance of and is comfortable using data and conducting analyses to make forward-thinking decisions.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively across all levels of the organization.
  • Drives to achieve higher performance by setting challenging goals and making decisions based on sound judgment and business fundamentals.
  • Able to create an environment of open communication. Understands team members' skill sets and challenges each accordingly, thus enabling the team to perform at its best. Holds individuals accountable for their commitments, providing proper tools / instruction for executives, as well as feedback for growth.
